In late 2024, I spent a month on Iriomote Island, the southernmost and second largest island of Okinawa, where I’d met Shige-san, also known as Jiji among workers on the farm. I recall asking the name of the waterfall that was behind the farm one scorching afternoon, to which he simply replied “Jiji no Taki” (Jiji’s Waterfall). This zine gives you a glimpse of his life, his quiet dedication, and the many practices he weaves beyond farming—fishing, salt-making, distillation, and much more.
