Bodywork

Bodywork treatment is a deeply meditative and healing practice that nourishes our bodies and helps us realign with ourselves. By improving circulation and releasing tension stored in our bodies, it can help us gain clarity and stay grounded.

the lymphatic system

The lymphatic system plays a crucial supportive role in the body’s immune defense, consisting of a network of lymph vessels, nodes, and lymphocytes, along with vital organs such as the thymus, spleen, and tonsils. There are over 300 small, bean-shaped lymph nodes—about 2–3 millimeters in size—distributed throughout the body, which trap and eliminate harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, and toxins.

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system lacks its own pumping mechanism and instead relies on muscle movement, breathing, and manual therapies (such as massages) to circulate lymph fluid. A sedentary lifestyle and poor posture, in particular, can therefore slow the flow of the lymphatic system, causing symptoms such as fatigue, inflammation, and a feeling of heaviness. Lymphatic drainage treatments work by gently stimulating the flow of lymph fluid, and when combined with aromatherapy and shiatsu—a traditional Japanese technique that stimulates acupressure points—these treatments offer a gentle yet powerful way to restore our bodies.

aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a gentle and holistic practice that utilises essential oils derived from plants to promote relaxation and support physical and psychological well-being through inhalation or topical application. It is widely adopted in various healthcare settings and has been shown to be particularly effective in areas such as stress reduction, pain management, and improving sleep quality. In my practice, I work with blends of organic essential oils, offering the following seasonal options:

(i) Energy

  • Tangerine: An uplifting oil that can instantly boost mood with its sweet, citrusy scent. Its ability to improve sleep was also revealed in a 2020 study examining its effects on brain waves, mood and sleep-onset latency.

  • Bergamot: Contains calming components similar to lavender, with antibacterial and antidepressant properties, promoting relaxation.

  • Ylang Ylang: With a floral scent reminiscent of jasmine, it reduces the stress hormone cortisol and increases serotonin levels, thereby balancing mood and uplifts the spirit.

  • Pine: A grounding scent that soothes mental fatigue and enhances focus.

(ii) Release

  • Citron: A refreshing essential oil that improves blood circulation and helps improve digestion. Also known to boost the immune system and enhance liver function.

  • Bergamot: Contains calming components similar to lavender, with antibacterial and antidepressant properties, promoting relaxation.

  • Eucalyptus: Native to Australia and known for its purifying properties that help clear the airways and help relieve muscle soreness and hay fever symptoms.

  • Juniper Berry: A woody-scented essential oil that enhances kidney function and helps detox the body.
